This year’s batch of 157 new emoji—including a pirate flag, a teddy bear, and lobster—haven’t even yet arrived, but the powers that be are already planning next year’s release.
Emojipedia today offered a look at the emoji that have already been shortlisted for 2019. A few of its readers’ most highly requested characters—including a white heart and flamingo—are among them. Other candidates include a kneeling person, falafel, garlic, and sloth.
As Emojipedia noted, the list has not yet been finalized. See it in full below.
“At this stage these are only candidates, and no decisions have been made about the final emoji list for 2019,” Emojipedia Editor in Chief Jeremy Burge wrote.
This year’s batch of emoji will be released on June 5. If previous years are any indication, Facebook and Twitter will likely support them by the end of summer while Google and Apple will roll them out with OS updates this fall, according to Emojipedia.
